An Sulaire Trust was formed in 1993 to build and maintain a full size sgoth niseach (Ness Boat). These boats were used in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by the fishermen of north east Lewis to win a living from the sea... none survive from the fleets that were once counted in the hundreds.An Sulaire was bult by John Murdo Macleod, Master Boatbuilder, whose grandfathers boatyard was the last to build commercially, and his assistant Angus Smith.
