In the meantime if you have existing content that you would like to see included on the site then please Get in touch.

There will be a series of short training courses designed to give a leg up to would be content producers running through the first few months of 2007. Again, please Get in touch if you are interested in taking part in any of these.

General Introduction to Video

Training will take place over 2 days ( suggest two successive Saturdays ) and will contain up to 16 participants - split up into groups of 4. An initial meeting will take place where ideas will be discussed in advance of the training days. The training will be delivered by Uisdean Macleod - Television, Maintenance & Operations Engineer at Gaelic Media Services. Some support will be provided post-training.

Day 1 - Morning

  • Introduction, an overview of video recording, audio principles
  • Camcorder basics, limitations, contrast ratio
  • The lens, focus, depth of field, aperture
  • Operational basics, framing the picture, rule of thirds, (practical session)
  • Using light
  • Using a microphone
  • Building the story, research, storyboarding

Day 1 - Afternoon

  • Editing basics, how much to shoot, what cuts together, demo tapes will be made up to illustrate
  • Camcorder hands on
  • Discussion for group projects

Homework - pick one from a list of simple scenarios and work up a simple treatment / story board for next week

Day 2 - Morning

  • The groups are out shooting material for a 2 - 3 minute project
  • Edit material

Day 2 - Afternoon

  • Lunch and review material
  • Q and A session

Equipment

  • Basic camcorders (ideally to have external mic input; manual focus, shutter, aperture and white balance)
  • Tripods
  • Basic lighting - 2-3 simple tungsten lights and reflectors
  • External microphone(s) + basic mixer (shotgun and tie clip)
  • Computers with Windows Movie Maker
  • Paper & Pens

Please bring your own camcorder if you have it.
