From chapter 5 of the Western Isles Transport Preservation Group DVD. The western isles transport preservation group and the western isles classic car club organised an event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first motor car to drive the overland route between Stornoway and Tarbert using the "Cleite Ard" which was even steeper than the new road up the Clisham. A local gamekeeper Mr MacDonald who happened to be there when the car got stuck, pushed it to the top. After that it was more or less downhill all the way to Tarbert. Close Description
